MELBOURNE, FL - (January 28, 2009) – IntelliNet Technologies today announced the development of an integrated femtocell gateway which combines a  femtocell access point controller with a carrier grade security gateway in an AdvancedTCA^® platform. The all-in-one solution gives service providers and wireless operators the ability to manage thousands of femtocells simultaneously offering a viable way to securely extend cellular services indoors. The femtocell gateway will be showcased during the Mobile World Congress conference which will be held in Barcelona on February 16th through February 19^th, 2009.

The access point controller has been deployed in several technology trials in tier-1 operator networks through an OEM partner. The security gateway was acquired by IntelliNet in 2008 from Azaire Networks and has subsequently been enhanced and is being integrated with the access point controller. 

 

The femtocell access point controller is a control plane, software solution. It consolidates the various elements of the Radio Network Controller (RNC) into a single unit, minimizing the complexity and much of the operating cost of a traditional network. Unlike existing Base Station Controllers (BSCs), it is designed to handle the many thousands of access points in the femtocell ecosystem. It is an Iu-based solution for 3G-UMTS networks supporting Iu-PS, Iu-CS and Gn network interfaces to the core network. It implements a pre-standards Iu-h based solution with RANAP and SCTP support and will comply with the final standards.   

 

“We developed our femtocell controller for a major network equipment provider who required both scalability and reliability, leveraging components already deployed in operator networks,” added Ghosal. “It is built on our flexible Convero™ signaling gateway platform on which we have delivered a number of network convergence solutions.

 

The Azaire™ security gateway provides the Packet Data Gateway (PDG) and Tunneling Terminating Gateway (TTG) functionality for seamless continuity of the data session. It provides standards compliant IPSec tunneling and IKEv1 and IKEv2 support with EAP-SIM and EAP-AKA authentication mechanisms as well as support for AES, DES and 3DES encapsulation and SHA-1 and MD5 integrity algorithms.

 

IntelliNet will demonstrate the femtocell gateway in the FemtoZone at Mobile World Congress. Femto Zone is a unique industry collaboration intended to raise awareness of the rapid development of the femtocell ecosystem and to reinforce the importance of this emerging technology. It is organized by the Femto Forum with the cooperation of the GSMA, the organizer of the Mobile World Congress. The Femto Zone will be located in Hall 2 level 1and will feature daily presentations by operator members of the Femto Forum. IntelliNet’s CTO, Arun Handa, will be delivering a presentation on IntelliNet’s femtocell network solutions.

 

In addition to participating in the FemtoZone, IntelliNet will also be exhibiting at Mobile World Congress at booth E69 located in Hall 1 and will also be featured in the Innovation Zone located at booth IZ29 in Hall 7.
